In a vision long ago
I stood alone upon a hill
The fortress buried deep within
I had a mission to fulfill
CHORUS
There from the well
I drank deep
And filled my soul
At Dinas Emrys
In a vision long ago
I heard Merlin sing a song
He sang of wisdom deep within
And a place where I belong
CHORUS
There from the well
I drank deep
And filled my soul
At Dinas Emrys
In a vision long ago
You were standing by my side
And together we did go
Sailing hopeful on the tide
CHORUS
There from the well
I drank deep
And knew my soul
At Dinas Emrys

She flies on silver wings by moonlight
Beneath my window comes to call
Chasing memories and moonbeams
That’s her shadow on the wall
CHORUS
Look deep into my dreaming
Shadow’s always there
She lives on promises and daydreams
And fairy castles in the air
She’ll never shed a tear for twilight
She spreads her magic everywhere
CHORUS
Look deep into my dreaming
Shadow’s always there
One night she’ll come and find me
And together we will go
Drifting off into the starlight
To a place nobody knows
Chasing memories and moonbeams
Spreading magic high and low

Hoodoo Granny

Way up in the Smokies
In a farm up on a hill
Lived ol’ Hoodoo Granny
With her mule and a liquor still
She made a livin’ sellin’ herbs
Some potions and moonshine
Whenever folks would come to call
They always had a time
CHORUS
Grab your guitar, grab your fiddle
And rosin up the bow
I’ll get my old washtub bass
And you bring your banjo
We’ll be makin’ our own magic
While we’re dancin’ arm in arm
There’s gonna be a hoedown
On Hoodoo Granny’s farm
Granny had an old man
His name was Billy Clyde
Some folks say he ran away
And some folks say he died
Some folks say ol’ Granny
Sent him packin’ down the road
But the last time I saw Billy
He looked kinda like a toad
CHORUS
Grab your guitar, grab your fiddle
And rosin up the bow
I’ll get my old washtub bass
And you bring your banjo
We’ll be makin’ our own magic
While we’re dancin’ arm in arm
There’s gonna be a hoedown
On Hoodoo Granny’s farm
If you meet ol’ Hoodoo Granny
You will always have a friend
There’s always a warm welcome
And she’ll treat you just like kin
Just stay on her good side
And she’ll always treat you kind
But if you get on her bad side
She might get your behind
CHORUS
Grab your guitar, grab your fiddle
And rosin up the bow
I’ll get my old washtub bass
And you bring your banjo
We’ll be makin’ our own magic
While we’re dancin’ arm in arm
There’s gonna be a hoedown
On Hoodoo Granny’s farm

Living on my own
I don’t know what it means
I’ve been here before
Trying to live my dreams
The world beyond the veil
Is there for all to see
But still we close our eyes
Ignore the mystery
CHORUS
And I can’t believe the wasted time
The years weigh heavy on my mind
I don’t know what we hoped to find
Inside…inside
Once there was a way
To live in harmony
Once there was a way
To blossom and be free
Our Goddess taught us well
Somehow we lost our way
We fell beneath the spell
And the spirit fell away
CHORUS
Someday may we return
To the bosom of the earth
The spirit of the land
The home of our rebirth
The time it ticks away
The longer that we wait
I hope we mustn’t learn that
We can’t escape our fate
CHORUS

I Went Another Way
Copyright 2016 by Charlton Hall
I never felt the spirit
In temples made by men
But the forest called to me
As a child
I tried to understand it
To follow where you led
But I only felt at home
There in the wild
For a long time I pretended
To go where you had gone
To try to make you happy with your choice
But I soon grew tired of make-believe
When the Goddess called to me
There in the woods I found her voice
CHORUS
You have your own path
But I went another way
The door is open from my side
The choice is yours
We can agree to disagree
You don’t have to run and hide
“Hate the sin but love the sinner”
Is what I’ve heard you say
To justify the closing of your doors
But when it comes to hating
This is what you need to know
The hating is your god’s job, and not yours
I know our paths are different
And we both have different ways
But the pathway doesn’t matter in the end
If you can set aside your judgments
I’ll try to do the same
Because I know we both could use a friend
CHORUS
You have your own path
But I went another way
The door is open from my side
The choice is yours
We can agree to disagree
You don’t have to run and hide
You find wisdom in your one god
I find wisdom in them all
In the end I find that we both seek the light
You chose to shut me out because
You think that I am wrong
But self-righteousness doesn’t make you right
You turned your back on me
Because I went another way
Your decision’s your loss and not mine
I’ll be waiting patiently
If you ever change your mind
In the meantime
Me and mine are doing fine
CHORUS
You have your own path
But I went another way
The door is open from my side
The choice is yours
We can agree to disagree
You don’t have to run and hide

The Shadow Mountain Fae
©2022 Charlton Hall
I was wand’ring weary
A lonesome traveler was I
In the forest hillside
Between the land and sky
Lost and tired I stopped to rest
Beneath an ancient hawthorn tree
I drifted off into a dream
To the land of the shadow mountain sidh
CHORUS
I have gone
Beyond the veil
Never more to roam
Never more shall I return
From my mountain faery home
I have stepped outside of time
Where years they pass as in a day
A rambing soul who found a home
In the land of the Shadow Mountain Fae
CHORUS
I shall dwell in Tir Na N’Og
Forever and a day
Nevermore shall I return
From the Land of the Shadow Mountain Fae

Annwn’s daughter
Creature of the night
Hear her calling
Another soul takes flight
Death and beauty
To her it’s all the same
It doesn’t matter
When she calls your name
CHORUS
You say life’s a game
With all your pretty little playthings
Death’s apprentice
Chooser of the slain
Hear her calling
No longer in the game
The past is gone now
You won’t be back again
CHORUS
You say life’s a game
With all your pretty little playthings
Darkness flowing
Feel the curtain tear
Hear her calling
A chill upon the air
Her breath upon you
Too late now to beware
CHORUS
You say death’s a game
With all your pretty little playthings

Wayfaring Stranger

I'm just a poor wayfaring stranger
Traveling through this world alone
There's no sickness, no toil or danger
In that bright land I call my home
I'm going there to see my father
And all my kindred who've gone on
I'm just crossing to Valhalla
I'm just crossing over home
I know dark clouds will gather 'round me
I know my way is hard and steep
Yet the Great Hall shall rise before me
Where Odin’s chosen their vigils keep
I'm going home to see my mother
She said she'd meet me when I come
I'm just crossing to Valhalla
I'm just crossing over home
I'm just crossing to Valhalla
I'm just crossing over home

Shady Grove
Traditional – Arrangement ©2022 Charlton Hall
CHORUS
Shady Grove, my little love
Shady Grove I say
Shady Grove, my little love
I'm bound to go away
Cheeks as red as a blooming rose
Eyes the prettiest brown
She's the darling of my heart
Prettiest girl in town
Went to see my Shady Grove
She was standing in the door
Her shoes and stockings in her hand
Her bare feet on the floor
CHORUS
Shady Grove, my little love
Shady Grove I say
Shady Grove, my little love
I'm bound to go away
Wish I had a fine big horse
Corn to feed him on
Shady Grove could stay at home
And feed him when I'm gone
If I had no horse to ride
I'd be found a-crawling,
Up and down that rocky road,
Going to see my darling
CHORUS
Shady Grove, my little love
Shady Grove I say
Shady Grove, my little love
I'm bound to go away
I wish I had a glass of wine,
And bread and meat for two.
I'd put it on a golden plate
And give it all to you
Peaches in the summertime
Apples in the fall
If I can't have my Shady Grove
I don't want none at all
(Chorus x2)

(pronounced SHEN-ka SKAYNE)
I study all forms of spirituality.
The more I learn about paths from
around the world, the more I know they all have more in common than not.
I seek the ancient origins of spirituality; the realms of animism and shamanism.
I began music in 1974. My influences were Neil Young, John Prine, Dan Fogelberg, and Pink Floyd.
Now I seek the mystical through music.
